Join us for the next CIOP event! We will have a presentation on executive coaching including what is executive coaching, who is using executive coaching, how executive coaching works and how executive coaching works in other cultures. We are delighted to have two outstanding presenters:

Susan Slater, Ph.D. 

Susan has over twenty years of consulting experience with a variety of corporate and health care clients in the United States, Europe, Asia, India and Africa. Susan has worked with clients in the airline, automobile, electronics, entertainment, software development, construction, pharmaceutical, health care, and telecommunications industries. She has experience in working at all organizational levels to create measurable improvements through the design and application of effective organizational change initiatives.   Susan has served as a coach for individual executives at both the Corporate Vice President and Director levels in a variety of organizations in both business and health care settings.  A sample of the programs Susan has designed and implemented includes the following:

             Organizational and Team development

Within healthcare enterprises, Susan has developed and implemented successful leadership development initiatives in the areas of Medical Staff relations, Operating Room, Radiology, Emergency Department, Patient Safety and Quality, and Woman and Infant Services.  These projects resulted in sustained increases in patient and employee satisfaction as well as increases in volume and profitability.  Susan has also worked with private medical practices where she created and implemented organizational and leadership development programs.  In implementing these programs, she designed, conducted, and analyzed focus groups and custom surveys to derive the data needed to prioritize and implement organizational change efforts.   She has worked with executives, physicians, and nursing leadership to both initiate and sustain performance improvement.  Susan has partnered with professional, technical, and business leaders to craft individual development plans and has coached and mentored these professionals who uniformly realized significant performance gains.

Susan’s portfolio of services also includes the design and delivery of Executive Retreats and Institutes for Disneyland, CDW, Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Pathogenesis, Harrison Medical Center and Motorola.

Susan received her Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Industrial Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology. 

Karen West, Ph.D.


Karen is a Director and based in YSC Chicago. Since joining YSC, Karen has worked extensively with a range of multinational clients in the oil and gas, FMCG, and pharmaceutical sectors. She is part of YSC’s senior leadership team and has over 12 years of line management experience beyond her current remit. Karen is renowned for her highspeed development of executive talent, especially within organizations facing crises caused by challenging business results.

Prior to YSC Karen worked for an international leadership development consultancy across a range of clients in sectors such as government, manufacturing, retail, pharmaceutical, mining, utilities, hospitality and non-profit. Her early career was with the US Armed Forces where she served as a Lieutenant Commander Aerospace Psychologist in the United States Navy. In this role she specialized in effective teamwork and resource management of aircrew and ground support. She earned her wings as a Naval Aviator through the Navy flight surgeon designation program that included land, water and open ocean survival training, aeromedical training and pilot flight training.

Karen was awarded her PhD and MSc from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and a BSc in Psychology from the Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. A US citizen who grew up in Western North Carolina, Karen has worked internationally throughout her career which has helped her develop significant insights into the culture and diversity of individuals, organisations and management styles. In 2007, she founded and led YSC’s Houston office for three years and then headed our business in Mumbai, India for 2 years. In her spare time, Karen is an avid reader, sometimes musician and novice kayaker. She enjoys exploring the history and traditions of the Eastern Band Cherokee Indians, traveling, and acting as a Patron of the Arts.
